They speak in platitudes
Phrases they don’t try to understand
Declaring that “health is wealth”
Saying, “at least you have your health”
And if we are ill, then “get better soon”
They tell us to “focus on your health”
Like health is a synonym of happy
Dare I suggest a moment of reflection
As I speak in competing cliche
We all know, “getting old is inevitable”
And “illness the companion of old age”
We don’t need to win at health
Health is a changeable part of life
Disability a morally neutral fact
Even if I’m not able to run a mile
I can still wear my stuborn smile.
